| Abstract
| - Résumé. Les fouilles menées sur le chantier de Marcq-en-Barœul, « Le Cheval Blanc », à la jonction entre la vallée de la Deûle et la vallée de la Marque, ont permis de mettre en valeur un alignement de fosses et de petits foyers liés à un événement militaire important, la guerre franco-autrichienne de 1792-1794. L’image de la vie quotidienne des soldats, de leur alimentation et de leurs divertissements nous est transmis grâce à la mise au jour de structures particulières mais également d’un mobilier spécifique. La combinaison des sources archéologiques et littéraires nous donnent la possibilité de retracer l’existence éphémère d’un petit campement militaire français à la fin du xviiie siècle.
- A Small Temporary Military Encampment During the 1792-1794 French-Austrian Conflict on the Marcq-en-Baroeul Site, « Le Cheval Blanc » (Nord). Excavations carried out on the Marcq-en-Baroeul contruction worksite, « Le Cheval Blanc », in the area where the Deûle and the Marque valleys meet, brought to light a line of pits and small open fires connected with a significant military event, the 1792-1794 French-Austrian war. A picture of the everyday life of the troops, of their eating habits and their pastimes is thus conveyed to us thanks to the unearthing of detailed structures and also through the collection of specific material. The combination of archaeological and literary sources gives us the capacity to describe the short-lived existence of a French military encampment at the end of the xviith century.

Opgravingen op de site « Le Cheval Blanc » in Marcq-en-Barœul, op de plaats waar de valleien van Deule en Marcque samenkomen, hebben een reeks kuilen en kleine haarden aan het licht gebracht die verband houden met een belangrijke militaire gebeurtenis, de Frans-Oostenrijkse oorlog (1792-1794). Door het onderzoek van bepaalde structuren en specifieke vondsten verkrijgt men een beeld van het dagelijks leven van de soldaten, hun voeding en ontspanning. Uit het onderzoek van de archeologische en literaire bronnen kan men het kortstondige bestaan afleiden van een klein Frans legerkamp uit het einde van de xviiide eeuw.
